Awaiting photo!!!! That is not subject to copyright.

Obviously the posts on this blog have been absent over the past week. Obviously I have been doing better things. Obviously not.

This time last week my friend Cait (discussed here) competed in the final at the World Rowing Championships. Her crew took home the bronze medal. Great work. Other Australian crews also did well, follow these results up here. Cait has been quoted in the media, as they were buzzing around the crew at the end of the race, I can't really be bothered finding the exact quote or referencing it here. Really, that's a stupid thing to do. Who in their right mind is going to to string a decent coherent stanza of commentary together after they have just rowed a 2km race. Anyway equivocally Emma are awaiting Cait's post race critique. In the mean time Rowing Australia published this, also you can download the lastest issues of rowing press here. The official results are available here.

Keep the bastards honest

The founder of the Australian Democrats Party passed away today. He died after a long battle with Parkinsons disease. He is to be given a state funeral. Chipp was recalled for many things, such as the often quoted line "keep the bastards honest" referring to one of his maxims. He also promoted "fiercely independent research and public debate." Many people have said a variety of nice things paying tribute to Chipp, such as late line(watch the episode here) and the party for which he was responsible for forming. They are having a few problems at the moment. They have some principles.

Chipp had an interesting career.
Defecting from the Liberal Party in 1977 he formed the Democrats. Previously, he had been a liberal minister until falling out with the then prime minister Malcom Fraser.
He also was a significant player in the nation wide effort to
save the Franklin River.
The current prime minister noted that Chipp "did believe in something, [and] that is an admirable quality for anybody who goes into public life." "He was a true believer

You can gain further insight into Chipp's life by reading the
transcript of a speech he gave earlier this year to the party. His has a biography published on his website: http://www.donchippfoundation.org.au/. This page isn't too bad either, you can even watch Andrew Denton's interview with Chipp on Enough Rope from the external link available.

Bits and Pieces

  • Big weekend at the hideout. Went to Healseville Saturday market. Free-range eggs, home grown garlic and avocado. Also honey in a honey pot. The apples were great and we should have got a bag of lettuce. For anyone who wants the market is held at the Healesville Train Station. You can pick up breakfast there and they use the old train station as tea rooms. On Sunday you can jump on the scenic train and go for a ride around the area. On Father's Day Father's ride for free. My Dad is very excited about this.
  • We then had a coffee at a local coffee shop and then checked out the op-shop. Some great piano music was purchased. What I am sure is a collectors item Rolling Stones book was there. Also there were some great garden utensils; wood splitters, spades and rakes. I just managed to get Dad out of there spending a small amount of money. We then frequented the butcher. This butcher is very good...so good in fact that they won the best bacon in Victoria award
  • In the afternoon went for a walk...saw three wallabies. Previously that day had seen some galahs, parrots and the usual farm animals. I am looking for a goat. I think this would be great.
  • For a bit of fun....work out what colour jelly bean you are

What Jelly Belly Jelly Bean are you? click on this. I think it's a bit ridiculous! First I was a strawberry Jelly Bean then a peanut butter one. Goodness knows what I will be tomorrow....

My friend Georgia is a flight attendant with Jetstar.
Tomorrow she has a 3AM start. I called her today and she was at work at 4pm. She has worked since Saturday and is working through to Thursday. She sounded exhausted. Hope she gets some sleep. Can't wait until I'm on one of her planes. She would be a great flight attendant. Well she is (i imagine) I just can not say this until I have experienced her first hand!

I don't want to go back to Queensland. I am.
